Choosing a CDP without the enterprise tax

Most “CDP comparison” posts are scorecards with green checkmarks on the author’s column. That is not useful if you are an SME trying to decide whether you need a Customer Data Platform at all — and which kind.

Our focus is deliberate: SMEs that cannot afford to buy and operate a pile of specialized tools, yet still want to treat customers like people — with relevant, personalized relationships across the journey.

This post is our honest positioning. The detailed, side-by-side pages live under Compare. What follows is the thesis those pages share.

The job to be done is not “buy a CDP”

Teams usually need one of three jobs:

  1. Pipeline — collect events and ship them to a warehouse and tools (Segment, RudderStack, and similar).
  2. Suite CX — run profiles inside an enterprise experience stack (Adobe Real-Time CDP, and peers).
  3. CRM / GTM — manage contacts, deals, and campaigns (HubSpot and peers).

A fourth job is often missing from the buyer’s shortlist:

  1. Know the customer in real time — unified behavioral profiles, consent, segments, and rules you can act on — without an enterprise program or a warehouse-only architecture.

That fourth job is where Inoyu sits: a complete customer-experience tool for teams that need personalization depth without assembling (and paying for) a full martech/CDP stack.

What competitors do well (on purpose)

We will not win credibility by dismissing strong products.

  • Twilio Segment is excellent when activation means a large destination catalog and a mature CDI/CDP operating model. Many organizations should stay on Segment.
  • RudderStack is a strong fit for warehouse-first teams. If the warehouse is your system of record, start there.
  • Adobe Real-Time CDP belongs in Adobe Experience Cloud programs. If that is your stack, fighting it with a point CDP is usually the wrong battle.
  • mParticle serves enterprise digital product companies that need mobile-heavy collection and enterprise packaging.
  • HubSpot is often enough. If your world is CRM + email + forms, you may not need a CDP yet. HubSpot and a CDP frequently complement each other rather than replace each other.

If one of those sentences describes you, choose them. We mean that.

Where Inoyu is deliberately different

Inoyu is built for SMEs that need more than a lightweight marketing tool, cannot justify buying lots of point solutions, and do not have an enterprise CDP budget or team.

We offer a complete customer-experience CDP: profiles, consent, segments, rules, and AI-ready context in one product — so you can improve personalized relationships with customers without wiring together (and paying for) a warehouse, a CDI, a CDP suite, and three activation tools.

Our durable bets:

1. Open foundation, not a black box

Inoyu is built on Apache Unomi, an open-source Customer Data Platform. Our founder created Unomi and remains deeply involved in the project. The commercial product should strengthen that ecosystem — not hide it.

Openness is not a slogan for us. It is the answer to “who owns the profile model when the contract ends?”

2. Deployment freedom

Privacy and residency requirements are not edge cases. Teams should be able to run managed SaaS, their own cloud, or on-premise paths without abandoning the product thesis.

3. Experience CDP, not only a pipe

Warehouses and pipelines are essential infrastructure. They are not always the right runtime for “is this visitor in the VIP segment right now?” Inoyu optimizes for live profiles, sessions, events, segments, and consent-aware decisions — the ingredients of a better customer relationship, not only better analytics plumbing.

4. AI without surrendering control

AI personalization is only useful if context is governed. Inoyu’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) direction is about feeding structured, permissioned customer context to agents — not exporting your customer graph into an opaque model farm.

5. Pricing humans can explain

Our published Small and SME tiers are meant to be understandable (profiles and events, CHF / EUR / USD). Enterprise remains custom. We are not pretending to undercut every enterprise SKU on every dimension; we are refusing the “call us for pricing” trap for teams that cannot afford a multi-tool stack.

What “fair” means on our compare pages

On each comparison page we:

  • lead with what the other product does well;
  • describe differences, not “failures”;
  • give choose them if / choose Inoyu if guidance;
  • keep a qualitative matrix (no fake 9.7/10 scores);
  • date the page and link to the vendor’s own site.

Features, pricing, and packaging change. Treat these pages as orientation, not procurement gospel — and verify details with each vendor when you buy.

Try the thesis, not the brochure

If you are an SME that wants better personalized customer relationships — and cannot afford (or staff) a stack of enterprise tools — start a trial, compare plan limits, or talk to us.

If a specialist pipeline, CRM, or enterprise suite fits better, pick that. The market is large enough for more than one honest answer.
